RAF Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with French aircraft in a coordinated attack targeting an subterranean weapons facility in Syrian territory operated by the IS group, according to the UK's MoD.
The site, pinpointed through surveillance, was believed to be housing weapons and explosive materials, the announcement noted, and was positioned in hills just north of the ancient city of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to strike a series of access tunnels leading to the site... early reports are that the strike was effective," the ministry announced.
There was no indication of any civilian impact in the attack on Saturday evening and every plane involved returned safely, the defence officials confirmed.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
The Islamic State group - referred to as ISIS - imposed jihadist rule over parts of both Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This operation underscores British leadership, and determination to work closely with allied nations, to stamp out any revival of Daesh and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the region," Britain's Defence Chief the Defence Secretary said.
RAF aircraft have conducted overwatch operations over Syrian airspace to "deter any efforts to regroup" of Islamic State following its defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the authorities noted.
"I want to thank every member of our armed forces involved in this mission for their skill and their valour," Healey said. "They were among thousands of British personnel deployed over the holidays. This action, to eliminate dangerous terrorists who endanger our way of life, shows how UK forces are ready to step up, continuously, ensuring Britain's security domestically and powerful internationally."
Last December, the US military executed what it called a "massive strike" targeting Daesh sites in Syria, after an attack claimed the lives of two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The United Nations says Islamic State still boasts an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 militants in Syria and Iraq.
